More Sneaky Bandai Messages

05/17/08 0736 hours

If you hit up Bandai’s splash page and do a select-all, you’ll notice the above message. In the source code you’ll also find this lengthy conversation:

!– Sir! We are receiving a private communique from the Capital Ship! –
!– Primary Cannon is ready to fire at any time Sir, we need your orders! –
!– We must make sure of our target!!! –
!– We do not want to mistakenly hit it before its time. –
!– Sir, we do not have many firing opportunities left for the amount of ammunition the Primary Cannon has to go through to successfully trigger the inner core –
!– We have the Director on a direct-line awaiting final launch orders. –
!– Sir, Captain Y is fully recovered, outfitted with his new crew, and ready for action. –
!– Excellent, we could really use his help. –
!– Primary and secondary missions have been assigned. –
!– Give him four more. –
!– Uhhh… does he know about that, Sir? –
!– He will in a few days! –
!– Yes sir. –
!– Do we have any response from the Capital Ship? –
!– We are patching the Director into them directly so they can prepare. –
!– Something even more unbelievable than the last shot must happen in order for this to work successfully. –
!– We only have three windows open. –
!– Which one of them do we pick? –
!– Sir! We are detecting massive energy fluctuations within the core! –
!– Transient energy burst detected from another named hyperactive GP quadrant network! –
!– We’ve got to entertain people with something this weekend… –
!– Please inform the Director about the current situation, and then radio silence until tomorrow. –
!– We are in a holding pattern tonight. All departments please check in with the Director for go/no-go launch decision and read your emails. –

Now, most recently the hidden messages made direct reference to Toward the Terra. I’m not sure if this is still referring to it or not, since I haven’t seen the show, though “Captain Y” could be a reference to Osamu Yamazaki, the director of Toward the Terra; maybe the countdown will be to its website launch or DVD release?

On the other hand, it could be referring to a new license. If so, I don’t think it’s being announced this weekend; I talked to Rob Napton and it sounds like there won’t be any new acquisitions announced here, unless maybe something changed in the last sixteen hours or so.

Tangentially: I noticed two other little tidbits, which may or may not be new, in the source for BE’s splash page:

Konata wants all otaku to join her MySpace
ZERO needs you to join the MySpace Rebellion!

Since I didn’t know they had MySpaces for Lucky Star or Code Geass (…though I also never USE MySpace…), I figured maybe some of you didn’t either. So, here and here you go, respectively.

That Rascally Bandai Entertainment and their Source Code

05/12/08 1007 hours

Bandai Entertainment has gone all naughty with their website source code again! Here’s what it says in the splash page’s code (or skip to the end for the only potentially newsworthy bit):

!– Sir, sonar detects… strange… happy sounds eminating from an undisclosed location in space? –

!– Comm has no idea what to make of it sir. –

!– It scrolls in and out in waves. –

!– One of the ships is reporting contaminated food stores. Their chief intelligence officer is ill but is still able to perform his duties. –

!– Excellent! Keep his fever under check, have his duty shift end as soon as we are done with maneuvers for tonight. –

!– Aye aye, sir! –

!– Join me for one more voyage together… –

!– Toward the Terra. –

But wait, there’s more! Just a little bit more, on the catalog page:

!– Sir! Comm reports an alternate method of communications has been found! –

!– Excellent! We can talk here in privacy. –

There’s nothing on DVDs, Conventions, Gallery, Trailers, Privacy, or Contact (and I refuse to go through every product’s source code), but there’s some more on the blog, which are actually reactions to the words in the entry (the !– — marks the notes; anything not between those marks is part of the entry, included for context):

We also celebrate all wonderful women in general, for they are the strong, sparkling gems that support and brighten our days and are the priceless treasures who help run this world and enrich our lives and souls.!– fear not, he is not a script writer –

We’re currently hard at work on many things which we cannot talk about at this point in time. Wait, that would make for a really short blog entry. !– and career –

Something I can talk about (I hope?), and somewhat related to Mothers, is Toward the Terra!!– are we allowed to talk about that yet? –

My bosses have come up with a release strategy which will also hopefully satisfy your cravings for good anime entertainment at a proper price and schedules. !– you will see a lot more of this particular pattern –

Aaaand a little more on the Toshifumi Yoshida news release (also in reaction to the news):

He will be the localizing producer for numerous upcoming Bandai Entertainment releases. !– Gurren Lagann — !– ??? — !– ??? –

Whew. I think I got all of it. So it looks like new Bandai Entertainment addition Yoshida will be producer on Gurren Lagann? Or does that not count because they’re all question-mark-y? I’m so confused!

Ota07: GEASS GEASS GEASS

07/21/07 1912 hours

Code Geass

Okay, that’s all you need to hear for the rest of the weekend: Bandai Entertainmet has licensed Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, says Japanator. (PS: Geass is not a CLAMP series. CLAMP did character designs, but that’s all.)

They also snagged Terra E,k Ayakashi Ayashi and the My Otome Zwei OVA, plus the fourth DVD of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will feature “God Knows” sung by Wendee Lee, the American voice actress who plays Haruhi.

I’m not quite sure what to make of this last bit of news; I had asked previously about the in-show songs and was told that they would stay in their original Japanese, so I’m guessing that it’s a bonus feature? Will she sing the song in Japanese, perhaps? I have no idea!
