With apologies to the Mainichi.

Last year, Japan sent Death Note cosplayers Kikiwan and Naoki Shigure (dressed as Light Yagami and Misa Amane, though I’m not sure which was which) to the World Cosplay Summit, where the duo took second place.

This year they’ll return to the summit, but this time they’re dressed as Nausicaa and Grandmother from Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind. They beat out cosplayers from Dragon Ball Z, Evangelion and even VOCALOID2– yes, there’s a really cute Miku Hatsune and Rin Kagamine. Here is the Mainichi article and here is their gallery.

And the winners of the 2007 World Cosplay Summit are, according to anime!anime!, the French representatives, Isabelle Jeudy and Damian Ratte. That said, I’m really not sure what they were cosplaying as o_o Should I feel like an idiot for not recognizing those outfits?

According to the WCS blog, Tokyo took second place with its Death Note cosplayers, and Mexico’s Sailor Moon cosplayers got the “Brother Award.”

And, no doubt, a good time was had by all. I’m kinda sad the Geass cosplayers didn’t get anything, but eh - there’s always next year.

Here’s some video from the cosplay parade, via Japan Probe:
